What decides the value of a betting bonus
The short answer
- The wager multiplier and whether it applies to bonus or deposit.
- The cap on what bonus winnings can be withdrawn.
- The deadline and the minimum odds per qualifying bet.
- Which markets or games count towards wagering.
Every bookmaker offer can be reduced to the same handful of conditions. A 200% match with a x40 wager and a short deadline can be worth less than a 50% match with a x5 wager. Reading those conditions in order, before depositing, is the whole method.

Welcome offers and deposit matches
A betting welcome bonus is usually a deposit match: the bookmaker adds a percentage of the first deposit as bonus funds. The headline percentage tells you the size; the wager tells you the cost.
A deposit match worked through
Worked example
A ₦8,000 first deposit with a 100% match gives ₦8,000 in bonus funds. With a x30 wager on the bonus, the required betting volume is ₦8,000 × 30 = ₦240,000. If the wager instead applies to deposit plus bonus, it becomes ₦16,000 × 30 = ₦480,000, double the volume for the same headline. That one detail changes the value of a deposit bonus more than the percentage does, and it is the best single test of an offer.
Free bets and how they pay
Worked example
A free bet is a stake you do not pay for, but in most terms only the winnings are paid, not the stake. A ₦2,000 free bet at odds of 3.40 that wins returns ₦2,000 × 3.40 − ₦2,000 = ₦4,800, against ₦6,800 for a cash bet of the same size. Free bet promotions also set minimum odds and an expiry date, both written in the terms.
Minimum odds, voids and partial use
Free sports bets usually come with three further rules. A minimum odds figure, often written per selection, stops the token being placed on a near-certain favourite. A void or postponed match may return the token, cancel it or settle the slip at the remaining odds, depending on the terms. And a token is normally used in one stake, so a ₦2,000 token cannot be split into four ₦500 bets unless the terms say so. A token used in an app follows the same terms as on the website. Offers on registration without a deposit
A common question is which betting site gives bonus on registration without deposit. Such offers exist, but they are typically small, carry a low withdrawal cap and require identity verification before any payout. Sign up bonus betting sites that ask for card details or a “release fee” to unlock a no-deposit bonus show a warning sign; a real bonus never needs a payment to a person.
Accumulator and other sportsbook bonuses
A sportsbook bonus on accumulators adds a percentage to the winnings of a multiple bet once it has enough selections. It changes the payout, not the odds of winning: every extra leg must still win, and adding legs to reach a bonus tier lowers the chance that the slip wins at all. Cashback returns part of losses over a period and often carries its own wager.
